Message from the Executive Director
Dear Visitor to LINK of Hampton Roads:
Welcome to our web site, we hope to enlighten you with
important information about our programs and outcomes, and we
find it equally important to share with you some facts which are
usually not shared or asked by you, a member of the public.
LINK is a member agency of United Way of the Virginia
Peninsula. LINK takes pride in our United Way affiliation and
wishes to let you know that the United Way is firm in their
expectations of the agencies they fund with your donations. As a
member agency, LINK and all United Way member agencies are
required to sign off on Letters of Agreement (posted herein for
your perusal). We want you to know where your money goes and
know that we are accountable for the work that we produce.
Please also note that our administrative and fundraising
costs run at 12% a very low amount – thus 88% of your money
goes to program expenses in working with the impoverished and at
risk in our community.
I recently read an article sent to the editor of the Daily
Press, written by a gentleman from Williamsburg who was
financially supporting a local police fund drive through
telephone solicitation – This gentleman was agitated because
his money was not going to the fund he thought it was.
As executive director of LINK and as a member of the public I
want to share that information on ANY non profit agency can be
sought through a number of sources: The Better Business Bureau;
The State Corporation Commission; The Department of Agriculture
– non profits must file an S102 in order to solicit funds;
your local United Way – even donor designated agencies must
provide United Way statistical information pertaining to their
programs; OR
