Nature of Work:
The Hampton Roads Regional Jail’s Maintenance Department performs maintenance to grounds by repairing and maintaining the HRRJ facilities area. Duties include; painting, marking, removing and installing equipment, renovating, refinishing, repairing and painting walls, repairs, performing minor concrete repairs/installations, and carpentry.

Summary of Responsibilities:
Master Control is the “nerve center” of the facility. The Master Control Operator has considerable responsibility for maintaining perimeter security, controlling movement within the facility, monitoring life-safety systems, and key control. Much of the Master Control Operators’ time is devoted to the door control function: acknowledging door control intercom calls, making positive identification of the person requesting doors be opened, and opening doors. Master control is responsible for monitoring cameras, coordinating communication between units, and maintaining equipment and security in the armory. Also for securing the riot equipment room.

OW HIRING: JAIL OFFICERS (SWORN POSITION)
The Hampton Roads Regional Jail (HRRJ) is currently hiring for the position of Sworn Jail Officer. Jail Officers are primarily responsible for the supervision of inmates within their assigned areas. Jail Officers play an integral role in the daily operations of the facility and must communicate effectively. The Hampton Roads Regional Jail houses a diverse inmate population from various ethnic, racial, cultural and economic backgrounds. Jail Officers enjoy a flexible work schedule with paid time off, premier medical benefits and participation in the Virginia Retirement System with the Law Enforcement Officer’s Supplement (LEOS).
JAIL OFFICER REQUIREMENTS
• Be a minimum of 18 years of age
• Be a U.S. Citizen
• Have a high school diploma or a general education development certificate (GED)
• Have a valid driver’s license
• Have an Honorable Discharge if the applicant is a Veteran of the Armed Forces
• Must be able to physically perform the duties of a Jail Officer
• Vision corrected to not less than 20/40

Criminal Record
– Conviction of or pled guilty or no contest to a felony or any offense that would be a felony if committed in the Commonwealth of Virginia
– Conviction of driving while intoxicated or under the influence of a controlled substance (within 3 years)
– Conviction of a misdemeanor involving morals, decency, or illegal drugs other than marijuana
– Any misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, including but not limited to petit larceny under § 18.2-96, or any offense involving moral turpitude that would be a misdemeanor if committed in the Commonwealth of Virginia
– Conviction of any domestic assault (Title 18 Federal Code)
– Any misdemeanor sex offense in the Commonwealth, another state, or the United States, including but not limited to sexual battery under § 18.2-67.4 or consensual sexual intercourse with a minor 15 or older under clause (ii) of § 18.2-371
Driving Record
– Current driver’s license suspension
– Driver’s license suspension for moving violation within last 6 months
Drug Usage
– Any use of heroin, cocaine, PCP, methamphetamine, hallucinogen, or other Schedule 1 or 2 Controlled Substance within past 3 years
– Any use of illegal substances by injection at any time
– Any use of marijuana or hashish within the past 12 months prior to submitting your application or any time thereafter
